How to find PSU Version ?

Patch Set Updates are referenced by their 5-place version number. You may use the below commands depending on hte ORACLE_HOME.
Database PSU:

$opatch lsinventory -bugs_fixed | grep -i 'DATABASE PSU'

CRS (Cluster Ready Services) PSU:

$opatch lsinventory -bugs_fixed | grep -i 'TRACKING BUG' | grep -i 'PSU'

GI (Grid Infrastructure) PSU:

$opatch lsinventory -bugs_fixed | grep -i 'GI PSU'

Enterprise Manager Agent PSU:

$ opatch lsinventory -bugs_fixed | grep -i 'ENTERPRISE MANAGER AGENT' | grep -i 'PSU'

Enterprise Manager OMS PSU:

$opatch lsinventory -bugs_fixed | grep -i 'ENTERPRISE MANAGER OMS' | grep -i 'PSU'
WebLogic Server PSU:

ORA-01031: insufficient privileges - sqlplus "/ as sysdba"

Summary

When you try to connect from Linux (Unix) as sysdba you get the error:
$>sqlplus "/ as sysdba"

SQL*Plus: Release 11.2.0.3.0 Production on Tue Apr 10 23:20:28 2012

Copyright (c) 1982, 2011, Oracle. All rights reserved.

ERROR:
ORA-01031: insufficient privileges

Solution
++++++++
If the instance is RAC ,check config.c file on both nodes and find out the difference between two.

[oracle@cstsd12 ~]$ sqlplus "/as sysdba"

SQL*Plus: Release 11.2.0.3.0 Production on Sat Jun 14 12:59:50 2014

Copyright (c) 1982, 2011, Oracle.  All rights reserved.

ERROR:
ORA-01031: insufficient privileges

Enter user-name:

cstsd11
++++++++
[oracle@cstsd11 bin]$ cat $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/lib/config.c
/*  $Header: config_ux.tmp 120.0 2005/10/13 10:30:15 ssuraj noship $ */

/*  SS_DBA_GRP defines the UNIX group ID for sqldba adminstrative access. */
/*  Refer to the Installation and User's Guide for further information.   */

#define SS_DBA_GRP "dba"
#define SS_OPER_GRP "dba"

char *ss_dba_grp[] = {SS_DBA_GRP, SS_OPER_GRP};
[oracle@cstsd11 bin]$

cstsd12
++++++++++

[oracle@cstsd12 ~]$  cat $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/lib/config.c
/*  $Header: config_ux.tmp 120.0 2005/10/13 10:30:15 ssuraj noship $ */

/*  SS_DBA_GRP defines the UNIX group ID for sqldba adminstrative access. */
/*  Refer to the Installation and User's Guide for further information.   */

#define SS_DBA_GRP "oracle"
#define SS_OPER_GRP "oracle"

char *ss_dba_grp[] = {SS_DBA_GRP, SS_OPER_GRP};

[oracle@cstsd12 ~]$

So the workaround is:
1. Edit $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/lib/config.c and set the correct groups, for example

[oracle@cstsd12 ~]$ cp -r $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/lib/config.c $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/lib/config.c_latest
[oracle@cstsd12 ~]$ vi $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/lib/config.c
[oracle@cstsd12 ~]$ diff $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/lib/config.c $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/lib/config.c_latest
7c7
< #define SS_OPER_GRP "dba"
---
> #define SS_OPER_GRP "oracle"
[oracle@cstsd12 ~]

2. Generate a new config.o

cd $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/lib

mv config.o config.bck

3. relink oracle
make -f ins_rdbms.mk ioracle

Difference between OC4J and Weblogic application server!!!

OC4J application server
++++++++++++++++++++
OC4J uses AJP protocol between OHS and OC4J.
OHS in front of OC4J is a must (as OC4J itself does not have a HTTP listener, so it cannot answer HTTP requests).
OC4J is completely managed by OPMN.
A couple of interesting features by OPMN, such as increasing no# of JVMs (numprocs in opmn.xml) for the OC4J are available.
OC4J runs on wide range of ports
ajp range=12501-12600
rmi range=12401-12500
jms range=12601-12700
We do apply patches over OC4J using opatch utility.

Weblogic server
+++++++++++++++++++
Weblogic uses t3 protocol between OHS and Weblogic server .
WebLogic has got a HTTP listener, users can directly access WebLogic port from the browser.
Of course, it is recommended to front end WebLogic by a web server but it is not mandatory. Web Server is mandatory for OC4J.
Weblogic is not managed by OPMN.
WebLogic is not managed by OPMN. So, WebLogic always runs out of only one JVM.
WebLogic runs everything on a single port by default, i.e. 7001
We do apply patches over weblogic server using BSU(BEA SMART UPDATE) utility in 11gr1 and 12c we are applying the patches using opatch utility.

All about database opatch utility !!!

What is opatch?
++++++++++++++++++
opatch is a java utility which is used to apply database patches.
opatch utility does not make any changes in database (*.dbf) but do make changes in ORACLE HOME binaires.
opatch utility is located in $ORACLE_HOME/bin

what is the pre requisite to apply database patches?
------------------------------------------------------
Database and database listener must be down.

To check either patch can be apply online or not
--------------------------------------------
opatch query -is_online_patch 17230530

How to export opatch utility
+++++++++++++++++++++

export PATH=$PATH:$ORACLE_HOME/Opatch

How to check opatch version
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
opatch version

How to check if the patch having any conflicts
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
/d01/erpapp/patches/CPU_PATCHES/16902043
 $ opatch prereq CheckConflictAgainstOHWithDetail -phBaseDir ./

Deinstall the patch by running the following command:
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
$ opatch rollback -id 14153246

opatch rollback -id 17230530 -no_sysmod

Check whether the patch has been rolled back
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
$ opatch lsinventory |grep 14153246

How to apply database patch
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
opatch apply

How to apply multiple database patches
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
opatch napply

How to go for help on patch
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
opatch help

D. Cleanup Patch Storage to Reclaim Space
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
OPatch can now determine and cleanup files in the patch storage that are no longer required. To do so run the following:
SYNTAX / EXAMPLE:

[oracle@lnx01] $ORACLE_HOME/OPatch/opatch util cleanup

B. List Detailed Information About a Patch Before Applying It
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
The OPatch utility can be used to verify details of a patch before proceeding to apply to the Oracle Home directory.
Such information that can verified but not limited to are:
• Check if patch is a Rolling Patch
• Check if patch is a Patchset Update (PSU)
• Check if patch can be run with “opatch auto” option
• Check OS platform the patch can be applied on
• Actual actions and/or steps that patch contains without applying the patch. This include detailed information of files it touches, copies and relinks.

SYNTAX:

$ORACLE_HOME/OPatch/opatch query -all |more

[oracle@lnx01] cd /home/oracle/download/patches/12311357
[oracle@lnx01] $ORACLE_HOME/OPatch/opatch query -all |more

How to determine if a patch is a "rolling patch" or not?
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Based on the oracle database version we can determine whether a patch is a rolling patch or not.

- For oracle version 9i or 10gR1 issue,
$ opatch query -is_rolling

What will happen when we put the database in begin backup mode?

What will happen when we put the database in begin backup mode?

alter database begin backup;

When we put the database in begin backup mode header of all datafiles get freez or SCN will not change;during this process it generates excessive redo logs.

Why it will generate excessive redo logs?

suppose you are updating some data in a table and the size of change vector data is 1 KB but the bg process write 8KB of block instead of 1 KB which result in generate excessive redo logs.

Why it is writing 8KB of data?
To avoid block corruption;it will write 8K of data but not I KB.

Difference between 11i/R12.1.3

1)By default form server is running socket mode in oracle application 11i and in R12 forms are running in Servlet mode.

Socket
+++++
Dedicated connection between client and server.
less secure
more network traffic.
High load on the server.

Servlet
++++++++
more secure
less network traffic
less load on the server

2)in Oracle Apps 11i we use to apply patches on 806/817 home using patch.sh script where as in R12 we use to apply using opatch.
3)INST TOP is introduce in Oracle Application 12.1.3 where all the configuration files,dbc file and port files are kept.
4)When form server is running in socket mode we can grep the process using ps -ef|grep -i frmweb and when it is running in servlet mode we can grep process using
ps -ef|grep -i http.

5)Report server is obsolete in Oracle Application 12.1.3 and running via concurrent manager.
6)After changing apps password through FNDCPASS it doesnot require to run AUTOCOFNIG or change some property or configuration file in R12 where as in oracle application
we do perform this task.
7)In ad_bugs table language column has been added to identified NLS patches has been applied to system.
8)We will compile forms in oracle application 11i using f60gen and where as in R12 we do compile using frmcmp_batch.

Jserver
++++
Jserver was build on c and c++ language and it is not compitable to run fusion middleware type of applications thus oracle removed this application server in R12.

OC4J
+++
OC4J was a product of a company a called orion flare.
Oracle bought and renamed to OC4J (Oracle Container for Java) which is compitable to run Fusion
Middleware types of application.

Hope , you enjoyed reading the difference between oracle application 11i and R12.

Thanks for visting my blog.

Difference between Web server/Application Server

Web Server
+++++++++
1)It is used to display static pages/html pages in web browser.It can't host EJBs.
2)Web server will accept http and https requests or support two protocols.
3)It does not support transactions itself or database connection pooling.
4)It has only one containter that is web contianer.
5)It acts as a proxy server or forward the request to application server.

Application server

+++++++++++++++++++
Application server execute business logic by interact with different client.
1)It is used to display the dynamic pages or content.
2)Application server will accept different proctocols http/SNMP/T3/LDAP/RMI/RPC  etc.
3)support tx
4)It has two or more container.

web,EJB,WS and JMS.

App Server have components and features to support Application level services such as Connection Pooling, Object Pooling, Transaction Support, Messaging services etc.

Solution
++++++++
As per the update received from the development team, those are just connections from the Weblogic to another server timing out because there was no activity.

[weblogic.transaction.TxTimer: '1'] but has failed to stop it.This is very likely to create a memory

When we stop otm application services , we have seen above error mesage in otm console log file of web server .

Solution
++++++
The process is stopping, so this error message can just be ignored.
The errors are from the Weblogic threads that are started up in the background to communicate with the Weblogic server.

Difference between Oracle EBS 12.1.3 and Oracle EBS R12.2.0

1) Oracle EBS 12.2.0 is available for 64 bit operating system.where as Oracle EBS 12.1.3 is available for both 32 and 64 bit operating system.

2) If we are installing Oracle EBS 12.2.0 ,It has RAC enabled option .where as in Oracle EBS 12.1.3 we don't have this option available.

3) Application Patching mechanism got changed in Oracle EBS 12.2.0 via ADOP (Application DBA online patching) that is online patching,but it is internally calling adpatch utility only.

4)If you are installing Oracle EBS 12.2.0 ,It will ask for TWO PORT POOLS one for the run file system and another patch file system.

5)Database cloning part remains same whether its 12.1.3 or 12.2.x (x=2,3,4,5).
Application cloning got changed in oracle ebs 12.2.0 as we are running "perl adcfgclone.pl appsTier" twice .First we are running @Run file system and the run pre clone @Run file system
and copy the binary to patch file system and run "perl adcfgclone.pl appsTier".

In 12.2.5 we don't have to run "perl adcfgclone.pl appsTier" twice as oracle came with another option called "perl adcfgclone.pl appsTier dualfs"

5)OC4J is replaced by Weblogic server ,because of its rich features .

6)In oracle EBS 12.2.0 ;While starting and stop all services it will ask weblogic password in additional to apps.

7)You can access oracle EBS 12.2.0 through mobile application ,but this feature is not available in oracle ebs 12.1.3 and earlier version.

Stay tune for more ...!!
